Hi YouFitMEFIT’s,
Attn all Aussie Sun Tanning bronzers…too many potato chips can increase risk of skin cancer! This was such a revelation for me…I’ve recently came across a little booklet plainly explaining The Untold Truth About Virgin Coconut Oil! Written by Ian Blair Hamilton & Cassandra Bond. And within it they wrote about when our diets have high levels of foods that have been cooked in polyunsaturated oils can lead to increasing the risk of skin cancer(BC’s or melanoma’s). This means I really need to cut back on weekend binging on potato chips, deep fried foods(donuts etc). Especially if we love being out in direct sun light and having a bronzer tan for summer beach days! He he
It was such a blessing because I was very interested in finding alternate sun care products for myself and family’s skin…because now they are saying the chemicals in sun cream are no good if using too much of. (which is myself being out in sun a lot) plus after sun damage. In addition, why so many of us around the 30-40years of age are having melanoma’s cut out of our skin and BC’s (Basal Cell Cancer). But maybe it’s not always about slip slop slapping but focusing a little more on our diets which may help us side step the skin cancers???? (Interesting)
Where to start…lets start with the potato chips…the way I have read this article is when potato chip makers, donut king or McDonalds or local chip shop, cook with polyunsaturated oils – usually canola, corn oil and safflower oils are heated up to cook or bake with. It increases the vulnerability to oxidation, causing rancidity. The greater the exposure of an oil to oxidation (heat) – the more free radical damage it will inflict on the user!
I was pretty lost at this point but here it is in regards to Sun damage and eating Potato chips.
SUN DAMAGE
“Since 1974, the increased use of polyunsaturated fats has begun to be blamed for the alarming increase in malignant melonama in aussie. ????
We are told that sun causes it. Are Australians going out in the sun any more now than they were fifty years ago?
They are eating more polyunsaturated oils (foods that have been cooked or made mixed in it)
Victims of the disease have been found to have polyunsaturated oils in their skin cells. Polyunsaturated oils are oxidized readily by ultra-violet radiation from the sun and from harmful “free radicals’. These are known to damage the cells DNA and this can lead to the deregulation we call cancer. Saturated fats are stable. They do not oxidize.” Written by Ian Blair Hamilton & Cassandra Bond
Saturated fats such as the good old coconut oil may look like the better options if cooking at home or on a small scale. Although way too expensive to cook with on a commercial level. Which means no more packet chip’s or donut king (commercially baked foods). Only every now and then…not every weekend! He he!! Stay tuned, I’ll write some more about some other great truths of the good old cheap coconut oil.
Happy Healthy Eating, Ciao Ciao
